Wow… okay, when there’s a hockey tournament (and the other kid has practices), there’s not a lot of time at home.
That’s how we spent the last days of our winter break. Monica’s team participated in the Bantam Elite division of the Winter Classic. They had four shutouts in five games and took home the trophy. They played (and worked) hard to earn the honor. It was a pleasure to watch them.
Here’s a news story you don’t hear very often
A Robin Hood in real life?
You gotta be kidding me right? Apparently not….
In Germany, a bank employee secretly transferred money from rich to poor clients.
Sadly the 62-year old woman was given a 22-month prison term for this act of kindness. She could have faced a 4-year sentence, but the court was being nice because she confessed immediately and did not profit personally.
Between December 2003 and February 2005, the German ‘Robin Hood Banker’ moved some €7.6 million in 117 transfers.
She did not take any money for herself. Her only motive was to prevent poorer clients from seeing their accounts closed. And get this… the woman is now reimbursing the millions lost by the bank, reportedly from a small retirement pension!
And how about garden jewelry?
Jeweller designs rings with plants growing inside them
A jewellery designer has come up with the ultimate 'green' collection - rings with live plants growing inside them instead of precious stones.
Featuring tiny Icelandic moss plants sprouting in their stainless steel bases, the pieces are said to be a 'clash of jewellery and gardening'.
They need watering like any other plant and if looked after, designer Hafsteinn Juliusson claims they can last up to six months…
Did you know that orchid flowers have been around as long as dinosaurs?
